Periodontal adverse effects of orthodontic treatment with removable transparent aligners versus conventional fixed appliances

Keywords: Dentistry, health, therapy, preventive medicine care, (UNESCO Thesaurus)

Abstract

Periodontal disease is more established in patients with the use of fixed orthodontic appliances. For this, it is of the utmost importance to know the different movements and problems that can develop during orthodontic treatment in order to understand the capacity that they have on the dental organs and the structures adjacent to them, in the same way to recognize the risk elements that can cause periodontal disease (PD). After the bibliographic search, 25 relevant articles for this study were defined. In this review, we tried to identify the adverse effects between periodontal disease and orthodontic treatment with fixed and removable appliances. Most authors conclude that regardless of the type of appliance used in orthodontic treatment will have an undesirable effect on periodontal health, with removable appliances being the most indicated option in periodontally compromised patients.
